Philips Korea said Tuesday that it has launched Anatomical Intelligence (AI) for Breast, a new ultrasonic breast-testing solution.

The platform, which uses an EPIQ ultrasound diagnostic system of Philips, is a proprietary ultrasound breast solution with sufficient anatomical intelligence. The solution has recently won approval for marketing from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

AI Breast uses an eL18-4 probe with built-in electromagnetic tracking coils to register vertical, horizontal, and vertical reference positions around the nipple. Afterward, using a variety of AI Breast tools, the platform helps clinicians analyze lesions more efficiently and accurately based on the ultrasound images.

The platform feature allows color mapping of the screened anatomy for documenting full coverage of the breast during the acquisition phase. Notably, the technology can obtain all the images from the upper or lower part of the chest to the parts that are easily left out such as the part near the sternum.

During acquisition, AI Breast provides auto-annotation and bookmark functions, which in turn helps the analysis process and retrieve data for enhanced workflow and documentation later on. Also, the image provides the position and direction of the probe and the location of the lesion.

The company’s system also acquires the examined cross-section and orthogonal view images at the same time, which in turn helps medical workers clearly distinguish the lesion from healthy tissue and make an accurate diagnosis.
