Asan Medical Center (AMC) has topped the list of 131 Korean medical institutions three years in a row, as rated by the U.S. weekly magazine Newsweek.
According to the magazine, AMC ranked first with a score of 97.62 points this year. Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) took second place with 95.65 points, followed by Samsung Medical Center (SMC) with 92.73 points, Severance Hospital (91.54), and Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (88.86).
Newsweek commissioned Statista, a German market research institute, to evaluate the hospitals based on medical professionals' recommendations, patient survey results, and medical performance indicators.
Aside from the Big-5 hospitals, St. Mary’s Seoul Hospital ranked sixth with 88 points, surpassing other private hospitals in the Seoul metro region.
While large Korean hospitals managed to achieve high scores, none made it on the magazine’s top 10 global hospitals. AMC and SNUH ranked 34th and 42nd place among the top 200 international hospitals
U.S. hospitals made substantial presences on the global list, with Mayo Clinic Rochester named the world’s best hospital for three consecutive years. Other renowned U.S. hospitals in the top-10 global hospitals included Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
The Singapore General Hospital ranked top among hospitals outside of the United States by being ranked eighth.
