Newsweek has ranked the Asan Medical Center’s (AMC) neurology and gastroenterology departments best among Korean hospitals while rating the Severance Hospital as conducting the finest orthopedic surgery in the nation.
In partnership with Statista, German global market research and consumer data agency, Newsweek has named the top 50 hospitals and ranked 51st to 200th hospitals in alphabetical order. In September last year, the U.S. weekly news magazine added neurology, gastroenterology, and orthopedics to the existing cardiology, oncology, and endocrinology departments.
AMC ranked sixth in gastroenterology, and eighth in neurology among the 50 medical institutions picked for the best level of care.
In gastroenterology, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital placed 15th, and Samsung Medical Center, Korea University Anam Hospital, and Seoul National University Hospital were ranked 16th, 35th, and 49th place, respectively.
In the neurology department, four other domestic hospitals were included in the top 50 institutions. Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, Chung-Ang University Hospital, and Samsung Medical Center showed excellent neurology care and placed their names.
Korean hospitals have also proved to show a strong presence in the orthopedic department as Newsweek and Statista included seven domestic hospitals in the top 50.
The magazine picked Severance Hospital to provide the best orthopedic care in Korea, ranking the fifth spot and rated AMC, Seoul National University Hospital, Severance Hospital, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, KyungHee University Medical Center, Gangnam Severance Hospital, Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, and Konkuk University Medical Center in the top 50.
Ewha Womans University Medical Center, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital Cheonan, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, and Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital also were introduced to have the global top 200 orthopedic departments.
The best hospital in the world to serve orthopedic care was the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Mayo Clinic placed second, and Charite University Medicine Berlin and Helios ENDO-Klinik Hamburg, located in Germany, ranked third and fourth in the orthopedic field.
