The Embassy of Denmark in Korea said it hosted a seminar in Seoul on Wednesday to mark the launch of the Korea-Denmark Hospital Alliance that aims to strengthen healthcare exchanges between leading hospitals in Korea and Denmark.

The Korea-Denmark Hospital Alliance involves major tertiary hospitals in both countries, the Danish Ministry for Health, Danish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and Healthcare Denmark, a public-private entity that promotes Danish healthcare solutions.

So far, eight hospitals have signed up for the alliance -- five Korean hospitals and three Danish ones. Korean members include Gangnam Severance Hospital, Korea University Anam Hospital, NHIS Ilsan Hospital, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, and Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital. Danish ones include Aalborg University Hospital, Aarhus University Hospital, and the Rigshospitalet (Copenhagen University Hospital).

At the seminar, officials from Healthcare Denmark introduced Denmark’s “super hospital project,” which aims to build smart medical technology and infrastructure in 16 major medical institutions in Denmark.

Initiated in 2021, the project also pushes to reduce the hospital stay period and readmission, improve outpatient care, and provide faster and more accurate diagnoses.

Also, key health authorities and industry officials discussed how hospitals in the two countries could collaborate for AI-backed diagnostic software, healthcare robots, and telemedicine.

Attendees of the launching event included Hallym University Medical Center Executive Director Yoon Hee-sung and NHIS Ilsan Hospital President Kim Seong-woo. Permanent Secretary Svend Særkjær of the Danish Ministry of Interior and Health and CEO Jakob Skaarup Nielsen of Healthcare Denmark attended the event online.
