Macrogen, a Korean DNA sequencing company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Samsung Electronics to develop and commercialize healthcare services based on genomic data.

The collaboration aims to integrate Macrogen's gene and microbiome testing platform, GenTok, with Samsung Health, a mobile app tracking personal health and life patterns. It will provide Galaxy smartphone users with personalized health solutions that combine lifestyle logs and genomic analysis.

GenTok is a comprehensive analysis of up to 129 health-related factors such as obesity, hair loss, nutrition, dietary habits, exercise, sleep patterns, and skin characteristics.

Samsung Health, used by 64 million people globally each month, supports users in understanding and managing their health through monitoring indicators such as sleep, exercise, and diet.

Under this agreement, both companies will collaborate on researching, developing, and commercializing healthcare services utilizing genomic data.

The two companies will start the cooperation by adding the "Samsung Health Gene Package Promotion" to offer Galaxy users personalized insights based on innate dispositions and lifestyle log trackers.

In the mid to long term, the service is expected to evolve into a more advanced platform incorporating MyData, lifestyle logs, genomic data, and surveys to support longitudinal studies.

"Through our collaboration with Macrogen, Samsung Health will offer more precise health analysis and personalized insights, advancing our service to support healthier lifestyles," Samsung Electronics Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team Pak Hon said.

Macrogen CEO Kim Chang-hoon also said, "By integrating GenTok's genetic test results with Samsung Health's lifestyle logs, we can provide tailored health management solutions based on diverse genetic information, such as sleep, nutrition, and exercise."

This collaboration with Samsung Electronics marks a pioneering effort in the industry and represents a significant milestone in establishing a new paradigm for public health management in an aging society, Kim added.
