Myongji Hospital opened the Hair Center on Tuesday. This is the first time a tertiary hospital in the Seoul metro region offers hair loss treatments, including hair transplantation and scalp tattooing.

According to the hospital in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, the Hair Center provides systematic diagnosis and customized solutions, ranging from hair transplantation, a fundamental treatment for hair loss, to medication, scalp diseases, and scalp tattooing.

Notably, the center will make the most of Myongji Hospital's infrastructure to conduct various tests, including blood and electrocardiograms before hair transplantation, determine the suitability of surgery according to the patient's health condition, prevent problems or complications that may occur during surgery, and speed up recovery, putting patient safety ahead of all else, it added.

Hair transplants will also be performed on patients who challenge treatment at ordinary clinics, such as cancer patients and bone marrow transplant patients.

Professor Hwang Sung-joo, who served as president of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), will direct the center's operation. Based on his 25 years of experience and know-how, he will increase the success rate of hair transplantation.

In addition, the center uses DCT (Depth, Controlled, Transplantation) technology, which adjusts the depth of transplantation according to the length of each person's hair follicle to increase the rate of hair engraftment and minimize folliculitis, and a dedicated hair transplantation machine to ensure a perfect surgery.

For patients' convenience, the center will also run the QRS (Quick Return to Society) system to help them return to their daily routine as early as the second day after hair transplantation. Patients can complete the entire process, including consultation, surgery, and post-operative care, in about five visits to the hospital.

“We will provide better services based on our long clinical experience and the innovative hair transplantation technology we have developed along the way,” Director Hwang said. “We will strive to become a hair center that prioritizes patient safety and satisfaction in an excellent medical environment.”

Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun said, “The Myongji Hospital Hair Center will meet the ever-increasing demand for hair transplantation and provide new hope for various cases that are difficult to perform in general clinics, such as hair transplantation for cancer patients.”

Lee added that he expects that combining Professor Hwang's experience and know-how in hair transplantation and Myongji Hospital's infrastructure would lead to groundbreaking and innovative treatments for hair loss.
