Samsung Medical Center (SMC) announced Monday that Dr. Park will become the 13th CEO and president of the hospital, effective Jan. 1, 2025.

Since taking over as the 12th SMC president in 2021, Dr. Park has transformed the hospital into a high-tech, intelligent hospital centered on severe and challenging diseases.

He was recognized for elevating SMC to a world-class hospital during his first term.

This year, Samsung Medical Center was ranked third in the world for cancer treatment in a global hospital ranking released by Newsweek. It followed MD Anderson Cancer Center at No. 1 and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center at No. 2 in the United States.

“Considering that these hospitals specialize in cancer treatment, Samsung Medical Center is No. 1 in the world as a general hospital,” the hospital said. “This is a testament to Korea's medical care and research capabilities on a global scale.”

Since taking office, CEO Park has also shown stable management ability. He has successfully implemented a pilot project to strengthen the critical care system and provided a vision for the hospital's future direction. He has also implemented future medical care by incorporating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence into the medical field.

As a result, the hospital received the highest grade of seven levels in four fields in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's (HIMSS) hospital digital level evaluation. Dr. Park will share Samsung Medical Center's success with other countries through a keynote speech at HIMSS 2025 in Las Vegas, Nev., next March.

This past March, Samsung Medical Center also scored the highest worldwide, with a 400 out of 400 in the Digital Health Indicator (DHI) survey, which measures the speed of digital transformation.

In addition, the hospital pays attention to corporate social responsibility and sustainable hospitals, establishing an ESG committee in 2021 and publishing an ESG report every year since last year, according to SMC.

“As we celebrate our 30th anniversary this year, we are facing a major transformation toward the future of healthcare,” Park said. “We will continue to work together with caregivers in every moment of our bold journey to create the hospital of tomorrow.”
