Doctors continue to visit Muan International Airport to attend to the families of those who lost loved ones in the Jeju Air passenger plane crash.
As the bodies of all 179 victims were returned on Monday, the ninth day of the disaster, most of the bereaved families have left the airport for funerals.
However, some will reportedly return to Muan Airport after the funerals. The families will gather at the airport this Saturday to discuss future measures. A joint memorial service will also be held on next Saturday.
Doctors have organized a medical support group for the bereaved families who remain at the airport, continuing to provide medical care. The Jeollanamdo Medical Association and the Gwangju Medical Association have dispatched a medical team to the airport since Jan. 1 and have been treating victims' families 24 hours a day in three shifts. The medical support will continue until next Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Park Hyung-wook, head of the Korean Medical Association (KMA)’s emergency committee, and Park Dan, who leads the emergency committee of the Korean Intern Resident Association, visited Muan Airport to join the medical support. Two finalists in the 43rd presidential election of the KMA – Kim Take-woo and Joo Soo-ho -- also visited the airport.
The Seoul Medical Association (SMA) sent medical supplies. A volunteer group of the SMA delivered 500 IV fluid bags and other medical supplies, including nutritional supplements, saline solution, and glucose injections, to the airport. The group will visit Muan Airport this weekend to join the medical support team of the regional medical associations.
