Sanofi, a global healthcare company, invited young adults with Pompe disease to an event in Seoul aimed at supporting their pursuit of education and careers while undergoing treatment.

Sanofi Korea held an internal event, “A Conversation with Young Adults with Pompe Disease,” last Thursday, where Sanofi executives and employees met with young people living with the rare genetic disorder to hear their heartfelt stories and offer empathy and encouragement.

According to the company, the event was organized to foster genuine communication between patients and employees -- focusing on the personal experiences of those living with Pompe disease, rather than solely on medical information or treatment updates.

In the first session, “My Story of Overcoming Pompe Disease,” participants shared their journeys to diagnosis, treatment experiences, and the emotional and practical challenges they face in everyday life.

The following session, “Time for Conversation,” brought patients and employees together in small groups for deeper, more personal discussions. They listened to one another’s stories, exchanged thoughts, and built warm connections.

Notably, the event included both young adults already active in society and those preparing to enter the workforce. They shared their hopes and concerns about employment and future careers with Sanofi staff, sparking meaningful conversations and mutual understanding.

Sanofi executives and employees expressed how moved they were by the determination of these young adults to pursue both treatment and personal goals.

“I was deeply touched by the stories of patients who continue to study and work while managing their condition,” one employee said. “It made me truly understand that ‘living with a disease’ is a daily journey.”

Another added, “I was inspired by the energy and drive of these young people with rare diseases. This was a meaningful reminder of why we do what we do.”
