Soon Chung Hyang University Hospital Cheonan said Wednesday that Professor Lee Han-yu of the Department of Emergency Medicine recently provided medical workers from El Salvador with the latest knowledge of emergency medicine and various emergency skills.

Professor Lee participated in the healthcare capacity-building program at the Hospital Nacional de la Mujer in San Salvador, El Salvador, from June 24 to 27, serving as the lead lecturer.

With about 110 medical professionals from El Salvador's public health centers and national hospitals in attendance, Professor Lee introduced the Korean emergency medical services system (EMSS) and provided training on on-site emergency delivery and initial neonatal assessment, fluid and oxygen therapy during critical patient transport, and difficult emergency airway management.

By combining theory and practice, Professor Lee constructed emergency scenarios to demonstrate skills that local medical workers can use in the pre-hospital and initial emergency department stages, and engaged the trainees in hands-on practice, which the El Salvadoran medical workers highly appreciated.

"I am pleased to have been able to help El Salvador develop its emergency medicine and strengthen its emergency medical system," Professor Lee said. "In future trainings, we will refine the direction and organize a more effective and systematic curriculum."

The training was part of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)’s project, called, “Strengthening the Early Detection and Transportation System for High-Risk Mothers and Newborns in the Mountainous Region of El Salvador." The Ministry of Health of El Salvador (MINSAL) is collaborating with the project, and Soon Chun Hyang University Medical Center is implementing it.
