Coreline Soft said Thursday it is participating in a 22 billion won ($15.7 million) government-funded artificial intelligence (AI) research and development project aimed at building multimodal generalist models to enhance medical service quality and efficiency.
The initiative, officially titled “Development of multimodal-based models and medical service support platforms for improving medical quality and work efficiency,” is supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare with 21.37 billion won in government funding and 652.5 million won in institutional contributions.
Reflecting the global trend of medical AI evolving from specialist, single-modality models to generalist, multimodal approaches, the project is led by Asan Medical Center and involves 14 institutions, including Coreline Soft, Naver Cloud, Public-AI, Emocog, Seoul National University Hospital, CHA Bundang Medical Center, KAIST, and the University of Ulsan. It is the largest medical AI R&D initiative ever launched in Korea.
“By securely applying federated learning across multiple institutions and integrating data from imaging, documents, and voice, this generalist medical AI will significantly improve efficiency and equity in clinical environments,” said Professor Yang Dong-hyun of the Department of Radiology at Asan Medical Center, who serves as the project’s principal investigator. “Importantly, this project represents a milestone in developing a domestically optimized medical large language model.”
Coreline Soft plans to contribute by combining its chest CT-based multi-disease analysis technology with generative AI to develop AI solutions tailored for specific medical fields such as pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology and chronic disease management, and critical care.
The company aims to support physicians by enhancing clinical decision-making, patient communication, research, and administrative efficiency.
“Our participation in this government project is highly meaningful, as it enables our chest imaging analysis technology to be applied in multimodal AI platform development and clinical validation,” Coreline Soft CEO Kim Jin-kook said. “We will leverage our extensive global experience and expertise in chest imaging to make this project a success.”
