Mogam institute, SNUH to develop AI-powered rare disease knowledge base
Mogam Institute for Biomedical Research and Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) said they signed a business agreement to develop a knowledge base for rare diseases using artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms.
Through this agreement, the two sides plan to develop a knowledge base that will help accumulate and interpret information on the causes, symptoms, and genetics of rare diseases to be used for diagnosis, treatment, and therapeutic development.
Mogam institute, funded by GC Pharma, will form a team of bioinformatics and artificial intelligence experts to develop algorithms for building the knowledge base, and SNUH will review available data and provide key opinion leaders (KOLs).
“The agreement will contribute to the improvement of public health by enabling patients to quickly access new diagnostic and therapeutic methods through the information built in the knowledge base,” Kim Sun, research director at Mogam Institute for Biomedical Research, said.
Professor Park Kyung-soo, who is the head of the Department of Clinical Genomics at Seoul National University Hospital, also said, “By combining the clinical research capabilities of the Rare Disease Center at Seoul National University Hospital with the artificial intelligence technology of Mogam, we hoped that it will help to efficiently treat patients with rare diseases.”
Meanwhile, since its transformation into an AI-based drug discovery center in January last year, Mogam has been continuously recruiting relevant experts and expanding its research into various fields, including platform research for the development of mRNA therapeutics.
