Prof. Kim Kyung-mo wins international award for contributing to pediatric nutrition
Professor Kim Kyung-mo of the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Asan Medical Center received the Distinguished Service Award in the field of gastroenterology at the 7th World Congress of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (WCPGHAN) in Argentina on Sunday (local time) for his contributions to pediatric digestive health promotion and research.
The WCPGHAN is held every four years. It was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from Dec. 4 to 7. Two physicians in digestive, hepatology, and nutrition received the Distinguished Service Award.
The Federation of International Societies of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (FISPGHAN) was founded in 1997 to promote the health of pediatric patients. Since then, it has become an international organization that promotes research and education in pediatric gastroenterology, liver disease, and nutrition, as well as standardized treatment and prevention strategies.
Professor Kim is an authority on pediatric digestive and nutritional diseases. He treats patients with pediatric gastrointestinal diseases, hepatitis, liver transplantation, obesity, and inflammatory growth disorders at Asan Medical Center in Seoul. He is one of the few pediatricians worldwide to perform endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), reaching the 1,000-procedure milestone in 2023.
Since 2022, he has served as president of the Asia-Pacific Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Society, successfully organizing the 16th Asia-Pacific Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Society Congress in Seoul in October 2023. He was also elected president of the Korean Society of Gastroenterology last month.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized for my dedication to research and care for children over the past 30 years. I am personally grateful for this award, but it is even more meaningful because it is an international recognition of the quality of Korean medical care.”
