Organon adds mood tracking to Propecia app in Korea, with global rollout ahead
Organon is launching the upgraded version of its MyPropecia support app in Korea, marking the country as the first market to receive the expanded digital tool.
The rollout is part of the company’s broader push into digital therapeutics, with plans to bring the platform to the United States, Japan, and Europe. Organon has not disclosed the launch timeline for those regions or which European countries will receive the update first.
Initially soft-launched in beta form in November 2023, the app was introduced as the world’s first digital support tool for patients taking Propecia (finasteride) to treat male pattern hair loss.
Following nearly 20 months of user feedback, the updated version now includes personalized features aimed at improving medication adherence and quality of life, expanding beyond its original functions of tracking hair growth and setting medication reminders.
“In the first quarter of 2025, Korea recorded the highest Propecia sales globally,” Kim So-eun, managing director of Organon Korea, said in a statement. “The Korean launch of this upgraded app reflects our commitment to improving the patient experience.”
“This is an integrated solution not only for medication adherence but also for managing emotional wellbeing and quality of life," she added. "Because hair loss treatment takes time, we hope this tool empowers patients to take control of their treatment journey and experience more positive outcomes.”
The update builds on the app’s existing tools by adding several new features designed to enhance usability and patient engagement.
Among them is an emotional tracking function, which allows users to assess psychological wellbeing through short surveys and visualize the results in simple graphs. The feature is aimed at addressing the mental health challenges associated with hair loss, such as reduced self-esteem and emotional distress.
Patients can also define personal treatment goals and monitor progress toward those milestones within the app. A set of educational modules provides curated content categorized by hair loss topics, offering users a more tailored and informative experience.
Organon says the upgraded tool is meant to help patients remain consistent with treatment outside of clinical settings. By offering tools to track hair growth, mood, and personal objectives, the company aims to increase long-term adherence and help patients manage both the physical and psychological components of male pattern hair loss.
The app is available via a secure QR code distributed by hospitals and pharmacies.
