A light marathon event for cancer survivors will be held at Yonsei University's Sinchon Campus in Seoul this November.

Yonsei Cancer Center said Tuesday that it would host the “1st OncoRun” on Nov. 8. The event is jointly organized by Yonsei Cancer Center, Yonsei University, and Seodaemun-gu Office.

OncoRun was designed to promote cancer prevention and enhance the health of cancer survivors. Anyone wishing to participate can join, including cancer patients, cancer survivors, family members, medical staff, and local residents

Participants can choose between a 5-kilometer running course and a 3-kilometer walking course. As this is not just a simple running event but rather one focused on cancer prevention, rehabilitation, and improving survival rates, various programs will be held in the lead-up to the start.

First-time runners can attend a beginner-focused “Running Class,” while experienced participants can try the “Daniel Exercise Class,” a bodyweight strength training program designed to correct running habits.

Additionally, experts, including Professor Park Ji-soo, director of the Cancer Prevention Center at Yonsei Cancer Center, Professor Kim Hee-man of the Cancer Prevention Center, and Professor Jeon Yong-kwan of the Department of Sports Applied Industry at Yonsei University, will share knowledge on cancer prevention, health basics, and the effects and importance of exercise.

“We hope this event serves as an opportunity to recognize the importance of exercise in cancer prevention and as a starting point to gain confidence that cancer can be overcome through consistent exercise,” Professor Park said.

The first round of OncoRun registration closes next Wednesday, with the second round running from Oct. 10 to 14. Applications can be submitted via Naver Form. Detailed registration inquiries should be directed to the email (oncorun1885@gmail.com).

The entire OncoRun participation fee, excluding event operational costs, will be donated to cancer prevention research at Yonsei Cancer Center, and a donation receipt will be issued. Participation fees are 50,000 won ($36) for individuals, 100,000 won for families (four people), and 300,000 won for the Donation Run. Corporate participation packages are also available.
