The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) said Wednesday that it has designated Waycen’s gastric cancer image detection and diagnosis aid software, WAYMED Endo ST CS, as the 37th innovative medical device.

Waymed Endo is a software that analyzes gastroscopic images in real-time with AI technology to detect the location of suspicious areas and provide information on the probability of gastric cancer to help medical professionals make diagnostic decisions.

Waymed Endo is the first product in Korea with an indication for stomach cancer. It was recognized as an innovative medical device because of its technological innovation.

Waycen has already supplied Waymed Endo to medical institutions in Korea and abroad.

Waycen was recently selected as a company to supply its product for the Public Procurement Service’s “Second Innovative Product Pilot Project” and will supply Waymed Endo to Gangwon State Gangneung Medical Center, National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital, and Veterans Health Service Medical Center.

In 2022, Waymed Endo was installed at St. Paul’s Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam. The company also joined President Yoon Seok-yul's economic mission to Vietnam last month to discuss additional installations at other medical institutions in Hanoi.

The ministry expected the designation to expand the market for diagnostic aid software for gastric cancer.

“To support the rapid commercialization of innovative medical devices, we will continue to provide close support, including priority screening, to provide safe and new treatment technologies to the public quickly,” the ministry said.
