CG Bio said Friday that it recently organized the "Meet the Korean Masters of Endoscopic Spine Surgery," an educational session on spine endoscopic surgery for overseas medical professionals.

CG Bio and other companies have formed a consortium to provide the training session under the auspices of the Catholic University of Korea International Technology Center’s Applied Anatomy Research Institute as part of a wide-ranging domestic medical device education and training support project.

Eighteen foreign medical professionals from eight countries attended the course, including Thailand, Colombia, New Zealand, Japan, and the U.S..

Professor Kim Jin-sung of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital led the training on endoscopic spinal decompression and lumbar fusion using products provided by promising Korean companies in the field of spinal endoscopy, according to CGBio.

Among CG Bio’s products, the training used newly developed minimally invasive screw (MIS) Colonnade, anti-adhesion agent CGDERM Spinkle, bone replacement material NOVOSIS, and height-expandable cage Excender.

Through this educational session, CG Bio had the opportunity to promote the application and excellence of its spinal implants and bone graft materials to overseas medical professionals, the company said.

"Korean doctors are leaders in the global spine endoscopy field, and we are pleased to have participated in the event to introduce their skills and the excellence of Korean medical technology to overseas doctors who want to learn their skills," CG Bio CEO Yoo Hyeon-seung said. “Based on our regenerative medicine technology, we will continue to develop products that help improve the spine treatment environment and ultimately introduce Korea's advanced regenerative medicine solutions to the global medical community."

Meanwhile, the domestic medical device education and training center is the first in Korea, where the central government and local governments work together to support full-cycle training, testing, and exhibition marketing to provide medical staff with the experience and environment to use excellent domestic medical devices.

Supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the consortium comprises the Seongnam Industrial Promotion Agency, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Catholic University of Korea Academy-Industry Cooperation Corps, and the Korea Smart Medical Device Industry Promotion Foundation.
