Konkuk University Medical Center (KUMC) said Tuesday that it has signed a business agreement with Neurophet, a company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for brain disease imaging.

Neurophet researches and develops brain image analysis solutions for the entire “diagnosis, treatment guidance, and treatment” cycle of brain diseases based on AI technology. It has commercialized four brain image analysis software and one brain stimulation treatment hardware.

Through this agreement, KUMC and Neurophet will establish a cooperative system for research and development of image-based diagnostic technologies for brain diseases, according to the hospital.

That includes providing research advice on image-based diagnosis and analysis technology, discussing joint participation in the digital healthcare business, and establishing a cooperative system for building domestic and international networks. In particular, the focus will be on research and development cooperation on brain image analysis related to Alzheimer's disease treatment.

"We can transform excellent medical staff and quality data at KUMC into practical technologies through cooperation with specialized companies,” KUMC Director Yoo Kwang-ha said. “We hope to achieve innovative research results in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease, which is considered an incurable disease."

Neurophet CEO Bin Joon-gil said, “We are pleased to be able to conduct research and receive advice from top-notch researchers in the field of Alzheimer's disease."

Bin added that Neurophet would actively cooperate with KUMC to achieve meaningful R&D results in Alzheimer's disease.

KUMC was selected as one of the 100 Best National R&D Performers and 30 Best Healthcare R&D Performers in 2023 in recognition of a new early diagnostic MR imaging marker for Alzheimer's disease developed by Professor Moon Won-jin of the Department of Radiology, raising the possibility of developing new treatment strategies and therapies for dementia.
